If we cancel the domain, it can take up to several weeks, and we can’t guarantee that your domain will be available to you again once canceled.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it.
Instead, you can move the domain another site, using the Domain Administration tool under Store > Domains, at the bottom of the page.
—
If you don’t want this domain at all, you can cancel it for a full refund if you purchased it within the last two days.
To cancel the domain, go to Store > Domains in your dashboard. Locate the domain you want to cancel in the list, and click on the Cancel button next to it.
This cannot be undone, so please follow the on-screen instructions carefully before you confirm the cancellation.

Thank you for your prompt response. However, I was told that a domain cannot be transferred to another site for at least 60 days after its purchase. Is this true?
-
-
Yes, you can update the nameservers at any time. The 60-day limit is only on transferring to another registrar.

ok i just found out that my site is registered through automattic.com. Therefore, I cannot go through the regular update process through wordpress, is there another way to update?
-
We are also Automattic.
You should still be able to change the nameservers using the Domain Administration tool under Store > Domains, at the bottom of the page.

I am very frustrated because I followed the instructions and I was still not able to update the server. I called Automattic Domain Administration and they said they could not help me because they do not have my domain. I am upset because I already paid for my domain through wordpress.com and it should not be this difficult for me to update the server for use of wordpress.org, please help…

Ok, Bluehost has a few different nameservers, so you’ll need to get the correct nameservers from them first.
Then, follow this guide to set your nameservers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers
-
I already have the nameservers and I have already attempted to update the servers that way, it does not work. In Domain Manager it says “not hosted here”. When I try to click nameservers on the domains page it does not do anything. I have tried this multiple times and as I said I spoke to two different people from Domain Manager and both said that they cannot help me. I am not sure what the problem is, but I cannot update the servers even when I follow the directions you have given.

Do you know of anyone on the wordpress team that can help me with this particular issue? Is there a number I can call for further assistance? Is there someone who can look at my site and tell me exactly what is wrong with it and tell me why I am having trouble upgrading the servers? I have tried everything under the sun and I should not have to pay for another domain when I already own this one…

You’re all set now.
It can take domain changes up to 72 hours (though usually much less) to propagate to your ISP. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS cache.

Thank you very much for all of your help it is very much appreciated… Wishing you all the best, have a great day :)
