Domain removed

I originally purchased a plan and registered my domain name with wordpress.com and then canceled my plan, which then converted my account to the free version, but kept my domain name and started to use my registered domain name on blue host. However, every time I typed in “mydomain.com” it would always redirect to “mydomain.wordpress.com”. I contacted customer support and was instructed to switch my DNS to blue host, which I did. Two days later, mydomain.com was still redirecting to “mydomain.wordpress.com”. Aside from that, I was playing around with different domain names in the “manage domains” section on WordPress.com. I typed in “mydomain123.wordpress.com” just to see if it was available and next thing I know, that is my new primary domain. I guess I clicked something I shouldn’t have? There were two listed, one was “my domain.com” and the other was “mydomain.wordpress.com”, and only the “my domain.wordpress.com” was changed. My registered domain name still appears as it was and I still own it. However, when I went back to blue host to continue working on my website, it will no longer connect to WordPress and it says my website has been deleted! I am now panicking because I cannot connect to my site through Bluehost OR WordPress.com (although I expect that on WordPress.com because the domain name was changed). Since I did not change my registered domain, shouldn’t I be able to connect to my site? Why does it appear deleted? What can I do now to get it back and reconnect with WordPress (without it re-directing to WordPress.com)?

  • Hi simplybyjackie, if you’ve cancelled your plan, simplybyjackie123.wordpress.com will be the primary address here even if you cancelled your domain.

Right now simplybyjackie.com points to your Bluehost site, that says “Coming Soon.”

Is that your intent? If not, let us know what you want to do and we’ll help you get this straightened out.

If you want to use our services after all, please re-purchase a plan, skip the domain part, and we’ll help you get the domain connected again.

If you do still intend to point to Bluehost but on your end it’s still pulling up WordPress.com’s address, it just means your computer / internet connection hasn’t refreshed to get the new changes yet. Sometimes restarting your computer or router will fix that, but if has been 72 hours since you changed it and it’s still pointing here, I’d check in with your internet service provider to see if the old setting is stuck on their end.

Thank you for the response. I want my primary site directed through blue host to be SimplybyJackie.com (but I’ve been using WordPress.org with blue host to edit this site). However, once I changed the WordPress.com address to simplybyjackie123.wordpress.com, my blue host server is no longer connecting to WordPress for SimplybyJackie.com. Every time I type it in, it says the site has been deleted.

Thanks for your help! It was the history on my computer that was causing the issue for the re-direction of the domain.
