Dear all, For the last 3/4 years I have purchased a domain. This used to cost me 13€ a year. Now I see that the domain expired and WordPress is charging me 99€ by the annual use. Please tell me what is going on because I never paid so expensive for the domain. Plus, I have my credit card saved on your backoffice and it should automatically pay the domain renewal.

Hey there,

You can no longer register or map a domain individually with WordPress.com. Moving forward, domain subscriptions can be purchased as a part of one of our many plans here. This recent domains with plans only update was made as we continue to work diligently to provide the best WordPress.com experience for both users who choose to purchase a plan as well as those who choose the free plan.

Normally, you would be exempt for this charge, but because you allowed your domain to expire, that is why you see the additional charge. However, this time around, I can waive the £99 charge and you can pay the £13 as normal. What site did you have tourisminnovationlab.com mapped to? I’ll manually add it on this end and send you a manual payment.

I am not sure if I understood well your last question, WordPress is the only platform where this domain was mapped to. However, I bought it on PTservidor. Please if this isn’t the information you asked for just let me know.

Hey Bruno,

I know it was registered elsewhere, but do you remember what site it was that you purchased mapping for here at WordPress.com? Because if you did not have it connected to any of your WordPress.com sites, you do not need mapping.

Let me know if that makes sense.

Hi Darnell,

I’ve only used WordPress platform so far. Since the first minute I only use this domain with WordPress. So I think I don’t need to map it.
When I bought the domain, I went to WordPress backoffice and added it.

Since that I only used WordPress I never used a different platform.

If your domain and the WordPress site is hosted somewhere else other than WordPress.com, you won’t need mapping and I’ll just not add it to your account here.

Where is the site you have hosted?

Everything is hosted in wordpress. As I told you I always worked with WordPress. I never used a different server. I just bought the domain on PTservidor. All the rest I created in wordpress.

Tourisminnovationlab.wordpress.com was the first one. Than I bought tourisminnovationlab.com

Ah, that is why this has been a little tricky. You aren’t the owner of Tourisminnovationlab.wordpress.com, but you were mapping the domain to the site – that is why I didn’t see it under your account.
