Domain still redirects to WordPress.com after canceling mapping
-
Hi, I’ve migrated my domain
kulearhitectura.comto a new host (Namebox) and canceled the domain mapping subscription on WordPress.com.I’ve:
- Updated DNS to point to
ns1.namebox.roandns2.namebox.ro - Verified DNS propagation globally
- Installed WordPress on the new host
- Forced the correct domain in
wp-config.phpusing:
define(‘WP_HOME’, ‘https://kulearhitectura.com’);
define(‘WP_SITEURL’, ‘https://kulearhitectura.com’);Despite all this, visiting
https://kulearhitectura.com/wp-admin/still redirects tohttps://wordpress.com/log-in?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fkulearhitectura.wordpress.com%2Fwp-admin%2F.I need help removing any residual domain mapping or network-level association that’s causing this redirect. I’m not on a paid plan, so I can’t access direct support — hoping a moderator can escalate this.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, @kulearhitectura!
I noticed that the issue is that your domain is still using WordPress.com A records. Since you are using custom nameservers, you’ll need to update the A records where you are managing your nameservers to match the ones provided by your new host. You can also cancel the domain connection on your WordPress.com account following this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/cancel-a-purchase/
Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Thanks for the response. To clarify: my nameservers are already set to
ns1.namebox.roandns2.namebox.ro, and DNS is resolving correctly to my new host. The issue is not DNS — it’s that WordPress.com is still intercepting/wp-adminand redirecting tokulearhitectura.wordpress.com.Could you please confirm that the domain mapping has been fully removed from WordPress.com’s system? This seems to be an internal mapping issue, not a DNS one.

Hello again @kulearhitectura,
After checking your domain kulearhitectura.com, I can confirm that the issue you’re experiencing is due to your DNS records still pointing to WordPress.com. Your domain is currently using GoDaddy’s nameservers:
ns51.domaincontrol.com
ns52.domaincontrol.comThis means that your DNS records are now managed directly in your GoDaddy account. Since the domain is still using WordPress.com records, you’ll need to update the A records there to make sure your domain points to your new host instead of WordPress.com.
I found this GoDaddy guide on how to edit your A records there:https://www.godaddy.com/help/edit-an-a-record-19239
Adiotally, to fully cancel your domain connection subscription on WordPress.com, please follow the steps in this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/cancel-a-purchase/
Make sure to follow these steps, and if you have any questions or need a bit more help, feel free to let us know!

Hi @elcristofue,
Thank you for your patience and guidance throughout this. You were right to point me back to the nameserver configuration — I had transferred the domain without updating them first, which left it stuck on GoDaddy’s defaults. Once I corrected that at my new registrar and re‑issued SSL on the new host, everything started working as expected.
I really appreciate your clear explanations and the resources you shared. The issue is now fully resolved, so this topic can be closed.
Best regards,
