Domain to expire. Want to transfer without loosing my domain, but on the cheap.

My domain is about to expire, I want to transfer my wordpress.com to a wordpress.org so I can have more control over the themes and design of the site, I really don’t care about saving anything from my wordpress.com blog but I do care about my custom url and don’t want to loose that. Could I let the wordpress.com expire and then start a new account with wordpress.org? What happens to my custome url once the domain expires? Can I just repurchase it from wordpress.org? I dont want to pay the $129 charge to have them repoint my url when I dont care about any of the content on the wordpress.com blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Don’t even think about letting the registration expire – also WordPress.ORG is neither a Registrar nor a Host – they are just the keepers of the WordPress software.

You can point your name servers from WordPress.COM to your new host yourself if you are still registered here, no additional cost other than to pay for the registration. The $ 129.– is for the Guided Transfer and moves the content (but not the domain registration) to a new host – they just change where the name servers are pointing

You can also move your registration to a new Registrar if you want.

If you let your registration expire – your domain name can take up to 90 days to be released and it will not work for most of that time – and somebody else can buy it

Ok, kind of new to all of this so…

I purchased my domain through wordpress.com, how do I transfer it to wordpress.org?

WordPress.ORG is not a Registrar – when you do find a Registrar see below for transfer instructions:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar
