Domain Transfer

  I am wondering if in order to keep the emails attached to the domain I currently have, I need to subscribe to the business package? Or if there will be some disruption in the emails? The domain is currently not through WordPress, it is through Lonex, so I will need to transfer the domain but want to make sure that I won’t run into any issues when I do so.

  Hi there,

  So you have an existing domain that you want to transfer to us, to use with one of the two WordPress.com sites in your account?

  We don’t provide email, so you’ll need to keep your email account with your current provider, but you can connect that email to the domain once it’s on our end so your email will keep working.

  You can use any of our paid plans to transfer or map the domain to us. When do that, the domain will still be pointed to your current DNS provider, so provided they don’t instantly disable your DNS the moment the domain is transferred, your email will continue working.

  Once the domain is added on our end, you can then add the MX and other DNS records required by your email provider to the domain, as explained here:

  Add Email to Your Domain

  Once that is done, it will be safe to switch the domain’s name servers to point to us, giving us control over the DNS. If all goes well, you shouldn’t see any interruption in your email at all.
