Domain Transfer

  Hello, I am a Designer and developing a website for a client, who has bought his domain at wordpress before I came into play. My programmer needs the full service of a “real” provider, because the possibilities provided by wordpress concerning domains aren’t enough. WordPress refuses to give away the domain for a transfer to another provider. Which kinda makes me freak out, because my client insists on having a certain URL for his website. I’ve tried almost everything to transfer the domain to another provider and it didn’t work. I need to finish the website quickly and so I need to transfer this friggin’ domain.

  I would argue we are “real”. :)

  What possibilities concerning domains weren’t enough?

  Transferring a domain from WordPress.com to a different registrar is doable but does take several steps and you will need to work with the original purchaser to be able to complete all the steps. Here they are:

  Now, if the domain was registered less than 60 days ago, you won’t be able to transfer it yet. This is a rule set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) http://www.icann.org/en/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm

  If you are within 60 days of purchase, then you most likely can just update the name servers to point to your new host and that will also work just fine.
