Domain transfer

  Hello there,

  I just bought a domain from GoDaddy. Their interface is too complicated and I’m more accustomed to building my websites on WordPress. However, I’m pretty confused about transferring my stuff to WordPress. I would really like to receive some guidance on this and I’m prepared to plan for an annual plan.

  Hi there,

  Sure! So, if you have domain you want to use at WordPress.com that you have hosted elsewhere, you have the option to map or transfer that domain.

  Whether you map or transfer your existing domain, you will need to purchase a WordPress.com plan, as you mentioned. The difference is who you want to host your domain. It sounds like you want to transfer the domain. If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com, we’ll manage the domain. You’ll pay for the mapping and the plan here (domain is included within the plan price for the first year).

  But, if you keep the domain at your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, you current host will continue to manage the domain and you’ll need to pay them for hosting your domain.

  Hey Darnell,

  Thanks for your reply. Here’s the actual issue:

  When I get to checkout I’m not allowed to pay/get the mapping, but instead I am forced to purchase a domain which I neither want nor need. The mapping is “free”

  Here’s what I’m talking about:

  Is it possible to just buy the mapping without purchasing a random domain which I don’t need?

  What you’ll want to do is go through the plan purchase flow and NOT choose camerarealm.com as your domain name yet. The system will allow you to register your domain later and shouldn’t force you to choose it at setup.

  Then, once you have purchased the Premium plan, you can follow these instructions to either transfer your domain registration:

  …or you can leave the domain registered at GoDaddy and set it to point to our WordPress.com site using these instructions:
