Domain Transfer and Nameserver change

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.

I’m trying to understand the domain transfer and nameserver change. Why do I have to do this in order to use WooCommerce? I don’t want to transfer my domain to wordpress.com nor do I want to change my nameservers. I don’t want my site to come up with .wordpress.com at the end of the url when someone types in my web address.

If I pay the $48 annually, for the Personal Plan, do I keep my own url without changing the nameservers? I just don’t want to point anything from my website to anywhere or anyone else. If this is not possible, please let me know.

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

You do not have to move your domain to WordPress.com in order to use it with your WordPress.com hosted site. Also, your custom domain can be primary instead of your .wordpress.com subdomain as long as you purchase a paid plan:

    http://wordpress.com/plans

You can read the differences between domain connecting and domain transfer here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domain-mapping-vs-domain-transfer/

In order to use your domain hosted elsewhere with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to change the domain nameservers at your domain host, and point them over to WordPress.com. Our nameservers are:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Then, you’ll need to purchase the mapping subscription upgrade as a part of a paid plan so that you can map your domain over to your WordPress.com site.

For instructions on both processes, please visit our support page:

If I pay the $48 annually, for the Personal Plan, do I keep my own url without changing the nameservers? I

With the Personal Plan, you are able to map or transfer your own/domain URL, but if the site is hosted with WordPress.com, the nameservers will have to be pointed to WordPress.com in order for the domain to work with the site.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!
