Domain transfer .com to .org and web hosting

I have been reading through the forum, but unable to find my question or similar for a resolution.

I own a WP blog from the .com side with my own domain name. I want to transfer this to WP.org side so I am able to become an online retailer. I’ve looked at various web hosts, and it looks like HostGator will work for me. I have also found a theme plug-in on ThemeForest that is a retail theme to allow me to sell online.

My question: I’m curious about the sequence of tasks in front of me to make this happen. Do I…

    1. Transfer my WP.com domain to HostGator and then upload the retail theme and customize/tweak
    or
    2. Purchase theme, transfer WP.com to WP.org, customize website on my computer, then upload to HostGator
    or
    3. Drink heavily and ponder the universe?

My ‘programming’ experience for something like this is just about intermediate level. I would truly appreciate help from someone with this, and in return, would exchange a nice product of value from my retail business for the assistance to be up and running.

    Thank you.

I read this article and I think it applies (somewhat) to my situation. http://codex.wordpress.org/Business_Blogging_and_Shopping

Hi. The following support article covers the basic steps:

I don’t know if you need to upload the theme before or after importing your content, so unless an experienced blogger can answer that here, I suggest you ask instead at the WordPress.org forums: http://wordpress.org/support/
