Domain transfer from Wix does not show website
-
I recently transferred a domain from Wix to WordPress. I’ve received emails from both Wix and WordPress that this was successful and the domain (ottawawriterscircle.com) is both listed as Active and my primary domain. However, it keeps telling me to point it to WordPress.com servers despite having the toggle on for the option in the domain’s settings.
I’m not sure where (or if?) I’m going wrong. All the help pages seem to just send me back to previous things I’ve tried. It all looks done to me, but I don’t seem to be able to visit the site.
Any help/advice? Thank you!!

Hey, @aefrankes!
Your domain uses non-WordPress.com
ADNS records, so I suggest restoring the defaultArecords for your domain.💡 Here’s how:
DNS records are special settings that control what people see when they visit your domain. They also allow you to connect your domain to third-party services such as an email provider. This guide will show you how to add, remove, and change your domain’s DNS records. Reasons for Editing DNS Records You may want to edit the DNS for your domain if you are: Verifying your ownership of a dThis is only if you want to use your domain with your WordPress.com site. If you want to use it with some other site (different hosting), you don’t need to perform these steps.

Hi there!
Thanks so much for this guidance. I tried it yesterday, and it seems to have partially worked! If I click the link to my domain from a WordPress website (such as here or in my settings), it directs me to the WordPress site I created. However, if I just type it into the URL bar or click a link from outside WordPress (like a social media platform), it still brings me to the Wix page indicating that the domain is not connected.
I understand the DNS reset may take some time to propagate across the Internet, so I wanted to wait to respond. It’s only been about 36-or-so hours, so it may need longer, but I wanted to check in if there’s anything else I’m missing.
Thanks so much again!!

Hi Averill, I’m glad you were able to remove the A records! I noticed the SSL certificate was still pending; but the DNS change seems to have otherwise propagated. I requested the SSL certificate manually and that should be working shortly.
If you’re still being directed to the Wix page, it might be worth clearing your browser cache in case that can help. If there’s anything else we can help with, please do let us know!

Hi there –
It looks like it’s nearly working! I also had to/reset the CNAME DNS record as well for the www. stuff, but it’s still a http not an https and I’m getting a security warning whenever I try to visit. In my settings, it says my SSL certificate is active, but I’m not sure if there’s something I should be doing to make the switch to https. I reset the CNAME DNS record this weekend, so I’m not sure if it’s a timing issue too.
Thanks again so much for all your help!

Hi there,
I’ve just provisioned your SSL certificate, and your website is now securely loading through HTTPS, for both the www and non-www versions. You should no longer see any security warnings when visiting your site.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out. Happy to help.
