Domain Transfer from WordPress.com to Self-hosted Site

  Hi, I’m in the process of transferring the hosting of the domain I purchased through WordPress.com to Bluehost in order to use WordPress.org, and I just wanted to make sure I have this correct:

  I initiated a transfer request, by unlocking my domain through Wordpess.com, and requesting a domain transfer through Bluehost using the authorization info.

  I received a “Confirmation of Registrar Transfer Request” email. I am now unable to access my /wp-login.php page due to a “Privacy error”–is this happening because the transfer is in progress? How long will this take? What happens when this is done–I assume my domain name will now point to the Bluehost site and I just have to import my WordPress blog to it?

  Hi @ksvilloso, the domain points to their name servers, and the transfer won’t affect the operation of the site at all.

  You might check whether you’re using https or http though, and whether your new host supports that. Best wishes!
