Domain transfer payment

  Do I need to pay wordpress $18 a year even though I transferred the domain to wix and now pay them $49 a year? Should I have just cancelled the domain name from wordpress and re-registered it on wix?

  If you have a domain registered, you will need to pay the yearly registration fee to your registrar. That could be WordPress.com, it could be godaddy, or it could be any other registrar. But this is independent of any fee you might pay for hosting or other website services.

  Okay. Thanks. Does it make more sense financially to fully delete the wordpress domain then and then just reregister the domain using wix? Is there any risk in this?

  There is actually a lot of risk in that. I would encourage you to not ever cancel a domain that is important to you. There is always the possibility that once you lose control of a domain, you will be unable to regain it.
