Domain transfer to WordPress – how will billing change

    Hi, I’d like to transfer my domain (currently controlled and managed by Squarespace) to WordPress but am curious how the billing will change. The domain is currently set to renew at $16 in May 2020. Will transferring the domain to WordPress honour this billing or will WordPress charge me again? Since I already paid for the domain, I’d like the payment to hold.

    Hi there,

    To transfer a domain to WordPress.com requires you to buy one of our paid plans.

    Each plan includes one free domain transfer, but as part of the transfer process the domain is also automatically renewed for another year, i.e. after the transfer your domain will only expire in May 2021. So you don’t lose any of the time on the domain which you’ve already paid for at Squarespace.
