  Confusion about link between HostGator and wordpress.

  Hi there,

  WordPress is the name of free, open source software, that you can download from WordPress.org. There is no link between Hostgator and the WordPress software, or WordPress.org, except that Hostgator is one of many hosting providers where you can install the WordPress software in order to build a WordPress site on their servers.

  WordPress.com, in whose forums you’re posting now, is another hosting provider, but for our own, customized version of the WordPress software. There is no link between WordPress.com and Hostgator at all.
