Domain Transfer/Cancellation
-
I purchased my domain name via wordpress.com less than 48 hours ago but it says that it was more than 48 hours ago and is not giving me a refund on my money. I would very much like to be refunded so I can switch my domain name to wordpress.org. I’ve already tried the transfer but I can’t do that without waiting 60 days which is absolutely ridiculous. I know that in the mean time I can have my domain name pointed to my wordpress.org (hosted by iPage). However, that is of no help either. I would like to have this domain switched as soon as possible. Please let me know if there is something that you can do.

Hi there,
If we cancel your newly-registered domain, it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and we can’t guarantee that your domain will be available to you again once canceled. To make sure you don’t lose the domain and can keep using it right away, I’d recommend not canceling it.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site, using the Domain Administration tool under Store > My Domains in your dashboard. (Since it’s a new domain, you will need to point the domain name to your new host for the first 60 days, and after that you can transfer it completely. This waiting period is mandated by ICANN for all new domain registrations.)
For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see: Move Your Domain to Another Host
If you’re sure you want to cancel it (and risk not being able to register it again elsewhere), I can do that for you. Please just let me know if you’d like to go ahead and cancel the domain registration and I’ll issue you a full refund.

Hello,
I do not want to cancel or lose my domain name. I just want to make sure that it will transfer properly. When I went to my domains, there was no information under domain contact information and it’s not letting me fill it in.
-
I transferred my domain to my wordpress.ORG account but when I typed “violetcolibri.com” into the URL it still directs me towards the WordPress.com site.

I’m sorry for the trouble with your domain. We’re currently investigating an issue with our domain registrar where changes to things like a domain’s contact information and DNS settings aren’t being saved. I’ll let you know as soon as we’ve worked out that issue so you can make the changes you need to point your domain to the new host.
-
Thank you so much. I just don’t want to have paid for a domain and then have it denied because information isn’t saved probably. So there is no way around the 60 days thing.

Hi there,
I just got word from our developers that the issue I mentioned before is resolved. You can now update your domain’s contact information and point your domain to your new host by following the steps in this guide: Change Name Servers
Your new website host for your WordPress.org site can give you the name servers information you need. If you run into any trouble with it, please let me know. :)
-
I just tried to update my information and it would not allow me to. I understand that my privacy is on, is that the reason why that I can’t update my information. If so, is there a way that I could turn it off?
-
Ah yes, I’m sorry for missing that earlier. When you have private registration for your domain, your details are hidden. (The details you see on the “Domain Contact Information” page are there because of the private registration upgrade.) However, your contact information is saved behind the scenes.
If you want to turn off the private registration, you can do that from Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard. Next to your domain upgrade there is a “Cancel Private Registration” link you can use. Please note that canceling private registration will make your contact details available to the public.
-
I appreciate that. However it has been way past the 72 hours it takes for domain reroute and whenever I type in my url it takes me to .com page and not my .org page.
-
I’m so sorry for the trouble you’ve had with this. Can you send me the name servers for your new host? I can help you get those saved and working for your domain so it’s pointed to the correct site.
-
Thank you so much for helping out with this issue. My domain that I want to keep and have already paid for through WordPress.com is (violetcolibri.com) . The domain that is set up through my wordpress.ORG is (http://violetcolibricom.ipage.com). I don’t know why it looks that way.
-
Hi there,
To point your domain violetcolibri.com to your iPage site, you’ll need to point the domain at your new host by changing your domain’s name servers: Change Name Servers
You can get those name servers from your new host (iPage). If you let me know what name servers your new host gives you, I can help you enter them on this end.
-
I contacted iPage and wild west domain and they told me to contact you because iPage is not allowing me to change my name servers. It says I must contact the registrar.
-
Just to confirm, would you like your domain violetcolibri.com to point to the new site you set up at violetcolibricom.ipage.com? I can help you change the name servers for your domain violetcolibri.com (or you can use the guide on this page to make that change: Change Name Servers).
However, before I can help you change those name servers, I need to know what name servers your domain needs to be using. If you’re trying to point your domain to your new site at iPage, you’ll need to ask iPage for their name servers — then I can help you enter those name servers for your domain on this end. That will point your domain to the new site at iPage.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
-
Yes, that is correct. I would like for my violetcolibri.com to point to the new site until I can completely transfer the url.
ns1.ipage.com
ns2.ipage.com -
Thanks for letting me know. I just updated your domain’s name servers to those two iPage name servers, so your domain will point to iPage. (Please note it can take up to 72 hours for domain changes like that to take effect everywhere.)
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help. :)
