domain via Go Daddy

Just got this email invite today from GD. Now…IDK what is better for me – go through WP to tie my existing domain to WP or go through GD (godaddy): […]

I directed traffic to my blog via my domain today. Now, i want to take the next step and set up a true website – maybe change the theme etc. HELP!
Do I need to have an existing email account ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’ through GD (go daddy) or can I get it through WP?
I have not done this in years and it is slow coming back AND so much has changed. HELP!
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @courtni, you’re welcome to work with GoDaddy or work with us. Either way. WE offer direct WordPress support if you have a paid plan. Chat is open 24 hours most business days, and we maintain the software for you. We also take care of security and emergency backups. We aim to make it a lot less complicated that running your own installation at another host.

You can read about the differences here:
    https://get.wp.com

Let us know what you’d like to do!

YOU are awesome! Thanks for getting back.

BTW – how do I find a list of awesome WP websites (not just blogs) that I can see as examples?

I will review and let you know. I may need a lot of hand holding (only in the beginning).
    Thanks!

  • @courtni let me know what style you’ve got in mind and I’ll see if I can find some examples for you :)

I am actually on WordPress looking at some sites now. Vogue etc.
Glad I listened to my gut and didn’t take GD’s offer.
I love that you have email redirect! That saves a ton.

I will look around some more but WP is already my choice

    Thanks supernovia!

i like “Business Identity” but i want a site that has both blogging capabilities and e-commerce capabilities like selling a service and offering payment options. What do you have in that vein?

  • Thanks for clarifying! Right now we actually don’t have e-commerce capabilities on the sites we manage, so you would want to use your own installation at another host. We have some recommendations here: https://get.wp.com

Most of the themes available for WordPress.com are also available elsewhere. Just be sure that if you buy a premium theme, you buy the right license. The licenses you can buy at WordPress.com are just for the sites hosted here. I hope that helps!

    Thanks for the clarification.
So I can’t have a “paypal” button on a WP hosted site?

  • You can have a paypal button:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Just not a full blown woocommerce store on our servers right now. Let us know if you have more questions.
