  • Hi there, I’ve swapped out mtespana.es for mtespaña.es on your mapping upgrade, but our system is showing that the DNS for that domain isn’t pointing to WordPress.com.

Could you please double-check that the name servers on mtespaña.es are pointing to:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

In fact, I did a search for mtespaña.es at a .es domain registrar, and it shows that domain is not registered:

Are you positive that you’ve already registered the domain?

    Let me know – thanks!

Hi and thanks for coming back to me.

I have parked this domain in 1to1 where I can see that the DNS is set to the names you mentioned above. I am positive I have, equally I had for mtalmeria.es and is working fine.

I could send you a screen shot from contro panel if that helps.

    best wishes

  • Hi there – interesting, I looked up mtespaña.es at http://www.1and1.es and it shows as registered.

I’m going to ask our developers to investigate this more closely and will get back to you.

  • Hi there, I’ve confirmed with our developers that we don’t support internationalized domain names at this time:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#internationalized-domain-names-idns

Because this domain name won’t work on a mapping upgrade, I’ve removed the upgrade and issued a refund. Sorry about that. If I can help with anything else, just let me know.

    Many thanks for info.

I wonder if i host the blog in my own hosting then I can map it OK. Do you have info on that?

    Thanks C

  • Do you mean switching to a self-hosted WordPress site (i.e. where you install the software yourself on your own server) instead of having a site here on WordPress.com? If that’s what you mean, you’d need to check with your hosting company to see if they support internationalized domains.

I thought of one workaround you might want to consider. If your registrar offers a forwarding service, you could forward mtespaña.es to mtespana.es, assuming you also own the version without the tilde on the n. You’d then map mtespana.es (without the tilde) to your WordPress.com site. Would that work for you? Visitors would see mtespana.es in their browser’s address bar, but at least you could still give out the mtespaña.es version to people and use it on any marketing or other materials.
