  As a local group of the NGO Norwegian Cyclists’ Association we established some years ago our own homepage here: https://slfloo.wordpress.com/.

  We have now improved the quality of this homepage and plan to buy the domain http://www.slfloo.com – before we are going to make the homepage more known for our members and other local cyclists.

  As a local NGO we do not have much money, but can afford to pay $ 18 pr year. Some technical questions:

  – Will pages like https://slfloo.wordpress.com/kontakt/ be shown as http://www.slfloo.com/kontakt/?
  – If we later decide to cancel the domain http://www.slfloo.com, will we still have access to the ‘original’ free homepage https://slfloo.wordpress.com?

  – Will pages like https://slfloo.wordpress.com/kontakt/ be shown as http://www.slfloo.com/kontakt/?

  Yes. All existing permalinks on your site will automatically update to show the new domain. The old WordPress.com links will also still work, so you won’t lose existing traffic to the current address.

  Please note that the “www” is not shown for any domain on WordPress.com. It will still work if you type www as part of the address, but it won’t be visible in the browser when the site is loaded.

  – If we later decide to cancel the domain http://www.slfloo.com, will we still have access to the ‘original’ free homepage https://slfloo.wordpress.com?

  You will go back to using the free address, yes, and all your content will still exist there.

  As a local NGO we do not have much money, but can afford to pay $ 18 pr year.

  Please note that we don’t sell domains on their own. You will need to purchase at least the Personal Plan before you’ll be able to register a custom domain for your site.

  Sounds good. What to do next now? How much do we have to spend to get our pages online under the domian http://www.slfloo.com?

  To add your own domain you’ll need at least the Personal Plan. Go to My Site ->Plans and select the plan you want to use there.

  Once you’ve purchased the plan, go to My Site ->Domains, and you’ll be able to register a new domain or connect an existing domain for free.
