    Hi there,

    The biggest benefit is that you’ll be able to manage both your domain and your site in the same place, and you’ll only pay one provider for renewal of both. If you keep your domain at the current provider and only map it to us, you’ll need to remember to pay them each year as well to renew the domain, and some actions on your domain will only be possible to perform on their end.

    Either way, you’ll need a paid plan on your WordPress.com site.
