Dramatic Decrease in Traffic

Hello Everyone, long time reader, first time poster.
I recently hired someone (who has worked with other adthrivers) for site speed optimization.
The test came back with 90s and they just went live with the optimization this past friday (29th).
Once this happened there was a dramatic decrease in traffic compared to the previous Friday (32%), a 26% drop from the previous day (thursday), and today is on pace for a 10%-15% drop compared to yesterday. The decrease in traffic came primarily from google and pinterest was just a small drop.
My traffic in October of this year is over 100% last year and has stayed consistent over the last four months (which are about double last year’s traffic). I did compare weekly and daily traffic compared to August – October last year and did not experience this. I also did look at 508 articles that were viewed last friday compared to 489 this friday.
November and December are usually a significant drop (it’s a gardening site), so that potentially could be the cause.
I also noticed that quite a few plugins were deactivated (and I have since reactivated some of them like jetpack).
Has anyone else experienced a large drop? Could this be more than coincidental and be from something that happens in the speed optimization. I did notice the upgrade in speed isn’t reflective in google speed test yet.
I did receive this message from the company yesterday and didn’t know if this could impact it:
    Hey Paul,
We are finished with the live site optimizations.
We just need to connect Cloudflare now (typically done over the weekend) and then I can send over the final before/after reports on Monday when Cloudflare is fully reflected in the PageSpeed scores.
Have a great weekend and let me know if you have any questions.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Hi there!

I’m afraid we won’t be able to help you here as your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. I think you’ll get some more meaningful advice at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites hosted elsewhere; we can only assist with sites hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:
