How do I stop e mail notifications going straight into my Spam or Trash? I risk missing them or do not discover them until days later?

How that works for your email may depend on settings in your email client or by settings made by the email provider directly.
There are a couple things you can do.
First, check the from address for the email notifications and copy it down. Add that address to your email client’s contact list. Some email clients will keep messages otherwise being sent to spam if the address is in your contacts list.
Next, if you can see any options that say “unmark as spam” (or something similar sounding) when you find the messages, make sure to click that as it may communicate back to whatever spam filters are in place that those emails really aren’t spam.
Last, you can try checking with your email provider directly. Send them the from address on the emails (including a sample copy of the email would be good too) and ask them if they can please help you check to make sure those types of messages are not getting marked as spam at the server level.
