e-mail notification
-
Hi ,
I’m following just one blog which is our school blog . We desperately try to activate the notification e-mailing but impossible. Just for all the parents to get an e-mail when sth new is posted by the teachers. Can you help? My e-mail : (email visible only to moderators and staff)
many many thanks

Hi Myriam! As I understand it, you want subscribers from your site to automatically get emails when you post? This is a built in feature of WordPress.com, but its controlled by the subscribers. So each parent would have to set this up themselves.
You may be interested in creating a mailing list through a service like MailChimp that you can use to email all of the parents a notification when you post. You’ll have to do this separate from WordPress.com though.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi, thanks for your answer….in fact I’m just one of the readers, the blog is hosted by the class teacher. Maybe it’s on her to activate a function so we can get the e-maiö notofications once we subscribed to it? Do you know? I just talked to someone who writes her own blog and she told me something like that. thanks!

Thanks for that clarification! Can you give me a link to the site you’re trying to get emails from?

in fact the ideal would be that all parents could activate this notofication e-mail service. The teacher’s are posting news during the week and for some people it seems too hard to check the blog regularly. Hope you can help….you would make it so much easier for us! thanks!

Thanks for that link! What you suggest is exactly how this works already. Currently I see that you’re subscribed to the site and you’ve set up immediate email notifications for new posts. You can edit these settings here:
https://wordpress.com/following/edit/
All other parents subscribed to the site can also do this. However, it looks like whoever manages the site is only making changes to Pages. We do not send notifications for Page changes. Pages are really meant for static content, where as content that changes should be put in Posts. You could reach out to the group that keeps the site up to date and ask them to use posts instead of pages, then you’ll get the email notifications.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

I never did a blog myself…..so no idea if it’s complicated or different if you post things “as a post”…..besides that, they were very helpful I have to say!
If you want to try it out …..let me know…………. -
Hi,
many many thanks for your help. I talked to the teacher ( which appeared strangely in our conversation…) and she thinks it’s not a good idea to change everything to “posts” now as a huge list of updates would appear at the bottom of the page….which would only create misunderstandings in the parents community. It sounds a bit strange but it has to be as simple as possible. But….we know now that we’ll never get notifications which is very helpful as everybody just has to check the blog regularly.
thanks again!! -
