Edin theme – mobile site

Hello – looks like the mobile version of your Edin theme has a bit of a problem. The pages are showing, but all the sidebar links are missing when viewing on an Asus 7′ tablet running Chrome

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

On mobile devices, the Edin theme moves the sidebar to the bottom of the page, below the rest of your content. (That’s how the theme responds to the smaller mobile screen.) Can you take a look on your Asus tablet and see if the sidebar links are appearing at the bottom there?

If they are still missing when you scroll down there, please let me know!

Yes I saw that once I’d disabled the Mobile version in the settings. However I didn’t see the sidebar when the Mobile version was activated.

Ah, I understand what you mean now. The mobile theme (activated under Appearance > Mobile in your site’s WP Admin dashboard) is a separate theme that’s unrelated to your site’s Edin theme. That mobile theme doesn’t include a sidebar and is best for themes that aren’t optimized for mobile devices. With a theme like the Edin theme, I’d recommend not using that mobile theme — Edin is designed respond to mobile devices without having to rely on a separate mobile theme, and that will make sure your sidebar appears with the layout that works best on each device.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Erm..that’s a bit confusing then isn’t it? Might you consider adding a note to that effect to the Theme somewhow?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry for the confusion! If a theme is already designed to work on mobile devices, you’ll see a message like this under Appearance > Mobile in the dashboard:

Awesome! Your theme, Edin, is already deemed to be mobile-friendly.

When your theme is already mobile-friendly, you don’t need to enable the mobile theme separately.

Hmm..ok but this text is not clear. It does not explicitly state that the Mobile mode should not be used. In fact, it’s missing exactly the phrase you used above:

“When your theme is already mobile-friendly, you don’t need to enable the mobile theme separately.”

Might I suggest you add those words to the page so people know what to do?

That’s a great suggestion, thank you. :) I will pass that along to our team to consider adding that to the page there.
