Edit an existing site
-
I am currently building a website for my friends construction company. The domain is through network solutions and I am building the site with dreamweaver. I am having complications with dreamweaver and would like to try and use wordpress instead. Is there any way of transferring the site into a theme in wordpress? And keep the same domain name of the existing site?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You have a couple different options, depending on how you want to set up your friend’s site:
Sites hosted here at WordPress.com can’t upload their own themes. However, you can choose from over 200 themes in our Theme Showcase and, if you’re interested, you can further customize any theme with the Custom Design upgrade. That gives you a lot of control over the site’s design.
Then, you can use the same domain with the new WordPress.com site with a domain mapping upgrade. We have a guide for doing that here: Map an Existing Domain
If you’d like a little more control (and a little more responsibility), you might want to build a self-hosted WordPress.org website instead of hosting it here at WordPress.com. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different entities, and you can read about the differences for your site here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
With a self-hosted WordPress.org site, you can build your own theme for the site and use the same domain, too. If you decide to go that route, you can get help with your WordPress.org site here: http://wordpress.org/support/
Please let me know if you have any questions about that! :)

Thank you!
So I will be able to edit the site through wordpress and it will still have the same domain name I am currently using for it? Is there any theme layouts that are specifically efficient for a business website? Or do you think creating my own theme would work better. I want to try and avoid having to do much coding, as I want to get it done in a short amount of time. -
Hi there,

Yep, exactly! :) If it’s hosted here at WordPress.com, you will have a WordPress dashboard to edit the site, and visitors will see the domain name that you already have. You’ll just need to create the WordPress.com site (with a free WordPress.com address that’s used on the back end of the site) and then map your domain to that site.
Is there any theme layouts that are specifically efficient for a business website?
There are a lot of themes to choose from, but you can find a list of themes that are specifically geared toward business here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/business/
If you want the theme to have specific features or styles, you can also filter the themes even further on that page. If you want to set up the site quickly with as little coding as possible, I’d recommend finding a theme that you like rather than creating your own theme — that can be quite a bit more work, and themes you build yourself can’t be used here at WordPress.com if that’s what you’re hoping to do.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
