Edit button and other features not working

  I’ve had a blog at this site for quite a long time and never had any serious technical problems. Now I can still access the site but some basic features, such as the “edit” button for draft posts, don’t work, and ordinary navigation, where it does work, seems to be slow. I’ve tried an incognito window and another browser with the same result, so I don’t think it’s a browser problem. And when I click on plug-ins from the dashboard, it doesn’t show an “installed plug-ins” option, so I don’t know how to get to the installed plug-ins to deactivate them. Also, I’ve tried once to log in to the administrative site (the site’s name plus “wp-admin”) and couldn’t.

  Hi! This sounds like it could be a few different things. Here are some steps to try:

  1. Clear your browser cache completely — even though you tried incognito, a full cache clear on your main browser can help with slow navigation issues.
  2. For the Edit button not working on draft posts — try going directly to Posts > All Posts from your dashboard and clicking Edit from there instead of using the button on the post itself.
  3. For the Plugins issue — on WordPress.com free sites, the Plugins menu works differently than self-hosted WordPress. You may need to go to your dashboard and look under “Plugins” in the left sidebar rather than through wp-admin.
  4. For wp-admin access — WordPress.com sites don’t use the traditional wp-admin URL the same way self-hosted sites do. Try accessing your dashboard directly at wordpress.com/home instead.
  5. If none of these work, it may be a temporary issue on WordPress.com’s end. Try waiting a few hours and attempting again, or contact WordPress.com support directly through the Get In Touch option in the forums.

  Thank you for the reply. This was apparently a problem on WordPress.com’s end; now seems to be fixed.
