  several pages tell me to change the boilerplate text with the ‘edit link’, but I see nothing that looks or acts like such a link!

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi,

  I think you might have been reading WordPress.org support pages. I’ve never heard of boilerplate text in connection to a WordPress.com site. What are you trying to accomplish?

  The original theme had the text “here is where your first blog will appear.” I could not for the life of me make that line go away! I finally deleted the whole post.

  A default post is typically published on a new site, though how it appears and what it says may vary from theme to theme. You should have been able to edit its content. However, no damage is done by deleting a default post.
