Editing using the classic block
-
I use the classic block to insert excel tables into my webpage. Today when I logged on I can no longer access the classic block. when I type /c the classic option is no longer there to select and if I type /classic it is no longer there. I have used the + to look through all options but no classic. According to the AI help it should still be there. I am on the Free Plan. Can anyone help
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Classic Block is soon EOL. Ther is no way round but you better take some time to learn using the Block Editor

Hey there, @entropypump apparently the recent update to the Gutenberg/AKA Block Editor removed the Classic Block from appearing in the Block Inserter. You can read about this development here https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/05/07/whats-new-in-gutenberg-23-1-07-may/#other-notable-highlights
Existing Classic Blocks continue to appear in Posts and Pages and so it might be possible to DUPLICATE an existing post where you used the Classic Block, then edit it to remove the existing content and create a new post.
But if you edit as HTML, as I recall from an earlier forum thread, why not use the HTML block or the Code Editor instead? That might be an alternative.

Hm, something looks off in my above reply.
The link I wanted to share was this one https://wordpress.com/support/code/ but it’s stuck trying to create an embed.
