Editor background doesn’t match site

Hi. My post editor recently changed the way it looks and no longer reflects the look of my site. This wouldn’t be much of a problem if not for the fact that it now has white text on a near-white background, so I can’t really write.
I haven’t changed anything about my site theme or appearance in years, and the actual site itself still looks like it did before (dark background with white text). However, the editor seems to have switched back to using the theme’s default colour for the background, despite still using my custom colour for the text.

- I have the Use Site Theme setting on
- I’m using the default Twenty Twenty theme, with custom colours
- I first noticed this change about a month ago

Hi there, sorry to ask the obvious, but did you already try turning off the “use site theme” setting?
Because this deals with Custom Colors, I’ve also flagged your thread for staff input.

I tested this myself on your site, and I can confirm the issue – the editor picks up your custom text color but not the background color, so everything is nearly unreadable. The front-end of your site still looks correct, which matches what you described.
I’ve reported this as a bug so our developers can investigate.
In the meantime, you can use the Code editor to keep writing: click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of the editor and select “Code editor.” It’s a plain text view that isn’t affected by the styling issue. You can switch back to Visual anytime to check how things look.

To answer your question — yes, absolutely! We’ll post an update right here on this forum thread once the fix has been deployed, so you’ll be notified through your forum notifications. No need to keep checking back manually.
In the meantime, as a quick reminder, you can use the Code Editor to write your posts more comfortably while waiting for the fix. You can switch to it by clicking the ⋮ (three dots menu) in the top-right corner of the editor and selecting Code Editor. It bypasses the visual styling issue entirely so you can see your text clearly while writing.
We appreciate your patience — our engineering team is aware of this and it’s being tracked. We’ll follow up as soon as there’s a resolution.
