No you can’t, you must upgrade to the Business Plan. But why would you need Elementor as the wordpress.com blocks already offer a lot of possibilities?

I used Bluehost as web server and did a website with WordPress. I purchased a theme (generate press) and purchased elementor pro.

Now I am doing another website for a friend. I am trying to avoid bluehost and use WordPress only as website builder and hosting. But from what I can see, the premium plan does not allow plug in? I know from working in WP before, I was very limited without Elementor?

    I am confused ….

  • Hi there,

To clarify, we’re a fully managed host that specializes in hosting only WordPress sites. That means we take care of all security scanning, software updates, backups, and also provide in-house support for all sites we host.

This does mean that the cost of setting up a site on WordPress.com can be higher than other hosts, but part of the reason for that cost is due to the effort we put in making our service as trouble free and supported as possible.

If cost is an issue you can consider more of a DIY route, such as what Bluehost offers. However on WordPress.com to be able to install plugins like Elementor you will need to upgrade to our Business Plan.

I know from working in WP before, I was very limited without Elementor?

It sounds like you may have been using the old WordPress editor, which I agree can be somewhat limited, especially if you are trying to create complicated page layouts. However, as @staartmees correctly points out we have a new website page builder tool (the block editor) which has functionality that is similar to Elementor. It allows you to use text and image blocks in a drag-and-drop fashion to create create WYSIWYG page layouts without leaving the editor.

This is the default editor for all WordPress sites, and is included on free sites as well as sites with upgrades: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you so much. This is very useful.

    I have one last question.

I am thinking of getting a refund from Bluehost and going with WP / Hosting.
My question is – Can I build a website with the PREMIUM (Best for Freelancers) Plan (C$10 / month). I am concerned because it seems there are no plugins available ? Will I have to go to Business plan if I want some functionalities? If so, I will need to stay with Bluehost.

  • You can build a site here under any plan, even our free plan. :)

You may find that a lot of the functionality you were looking for in plugins is already built-in here for free.
