Email forwarding setup issue

  While trying to set up email forwarding for my Contact page, I get this error message: ‘Failed to add email forwarding record with message ‘Can’t get zone because it does not exist: joyousvagaries.com.’. What does that mean? I am not ready to publish my site yet (still in development). Do I need to publish my site before I can use email forwarding, or is something else going on?
