Email notifications for new posts

When do followers receive email alerts for a new post? Is it an overnight process that is triggered automatically? I’ve signed up to my own blog to test this and I havent received an alert for a new post that was published today even though I received the email stating I have subscribed and will receive alerts when a new post is published.

Followers have four options for email alerts:
1. Immediately – an email is sent as soon as the post is published.
2. Daily – an email is sent once daily with all new posts from the site.
3. Weekly – an email is sent once weekly with all new posts from the site.
4. None – no emails are sent, the subscriber will only follow the site via the WordPress.com Reader.
What is the URL of the site you subscribed to, and what email address did you use?

It’s https://earthbeneathmeblog.wordpress.com and my email is (email visible only to moderators and staff). the email I received stated I will receive an email when a new post is published

We did send an email just after https://earthbeneathmeblog.wordpress.com/2020/09/06/looking-down-not-up/ was published.
