email subscribers

I have a subscriber section on my blog site that is supposed to allow my readers to receive my latest blog posts in their email. I see the emails that have subscribed to my blog, but there seems to be a disconnect in the delivery – no one is receiving them in their emails. Additionally, in my comments section, it lists checkboxes and one of them is asking if they want to receive the blog posts in their inbox and I have noticed after one person said they filled this section out and checked the boxes, that their email shows up on the WordPress stats page as being a subscriber. It allows me to manually add subscribers from this page, so I entered all the emails, but it did not seem to add them to my subscribers on the stats page. Any idea why this is not working?
