Embed code on wordpress.com site

Is it at all possible to embed html code, in this case for a Mail Chimp email form, into a wordpress.com blog? Or do I have to upgrade to a wordpress.org hosted site in order to use embed codes?

Hi there, while we do allow some types of embeds through widgets or shortcodes, MailChimp signup forms can’t currently be embedded directly on WordPress.com sites since they use either form or JavaScript code. You can read more here about the types of code that can be added to WordPress.com.
Since MailChimp offers a standalone signup page for each list, the easiest thing to do would be to link to the standalone signup page from a text widget.
