Embedding media from non-whitelisted sites
-
I would like to embed an audio clip from a site that WordPress does not currently support. The site is Macaulay Library, which is a great ornithological resource. The audio clip I have in mind can be found here: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/105139751. Attempting to embed the player by conventional means ([embed][/embed]) only results in a clickable link.
The WordPress article on embedding (https://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds) was helpful to a point, but it does not go into enough detail for those of us with only moderate tech savviness. I don’t know how to find out if Macaulay supports oEmbed and I am not sure how to call the associated functions to add support for the site.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
For WordPress.com you need to look at https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/ instead. If a service is not listed there, you won’t be able to embed their player.
If there’s a way to get the actual audio file link, so a link ending in .mp3 or another audio file name, you should be able to embed that using our audio shortcode, but else it won’t be possible to embed that content here.
