Enlarging Images

With the new changes to wordpress I can no longer enlarge my images. They have an option in the editor to make photos full size and they appear that way in my dashboard but when published they are tiny. I have a one column styled website so I can make my photos large – I don’t want my viewers to have to click on it to see it big and then hit the back button for every image. Is there a trick to get the images to appear full size? I really miss the old image editing appearance. I have multiple upgrades, anything you suggest?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Are you referring to when you insert an image into your post? If so, you can click on the image and see two icons, a “delete” X and a “edit” pencil. Click the pencil and you will see an edit window that has a resizing option and looks like this:

Also, when you click on the image, instead of clicking the pencil icon you can click and drag one of the corners of the image and resize it from within the post window.

Please let me know if this has answered your question.

Thank you for your response, yes this is exactly what I’m talking about. I have tried those two methods multiple times. Since wordpress did the update I have been able to get one of my photos to respond to the command to change sizing – the rest seem to just stay small. I’m not sure if it’s bugs in the system. Any suggestions? I just cannot have my photos staying this small long term, but everything I try (those two options) don’t seem to do a dent.

  • Can you show me a specific post/page example I can look into?

Thank you, I really appreciate your help. Here is my latest blog post: http://millermarrow.com/2014/04/05/dinosaurs/

If you see in the posts in weeks past all the photos are full size – I use the entire margin for a photo – I can’t do that now.

    Thank you!

Thanks again, I joined wordpress nearly two years ago and I chose this platform solely for this feature. I like having my photos big so you can really see them. I can’t imagine wordpress has taken away that enlargement feature, I can’t be the only one that enlarges images like that.

  • So, here is a screenshot of what I am seeing:

The images look to be the same size as the images I see when I look at your posts from January.

If you are seeing something different, can you show me a screenshot?

Here are some screenshot instructions if you are not familiar with the process:

    Take a Screenshot

I find http://snag.gy/ to be very useful for sharing screenshots. You can also upload the screenshot to your site’s media library. I will be able to see it there.

Thank you rootjosh! I put some code into CSS to make a wider content width – speciically 990px – under Appearance > Customize > CSS. If you have someone in this spot next time this did the trick!

  • Great to hear!

Glad you got it all sorted.
