Error establishing a database connection

    Hi there!
    my website is down since 21 July and the error I get is ‘Error establishing a database connection’ can you help me to fix it?

    Hi there,

    This kind of error message is often due to a problem with a plugin or theme on your site so that is the first place I would recommend looking.

    Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Unfortunately that’s the best advice I am able to give at the moment because we don’t actually host your site on WordPress.com (Fatcow uses a different version of the WordPress platform) and don’t have access to your server files.

    If my troubleshooting suggestion above does not work, you can find further help by asking here, in the forums for the open source WordPress project (the version your host uses)
