    I received an email to renew my registration which I was told is about to expire. I paid $197 to renew my registration for my web site gumaywest.com. Somehow the payment was made thru what seemed to me PayPal to a company called exalt.com. I checked my account with WordPress but there is no trace for the payment. My questions are

    1- Is Exalt part of WordPress
    2- if not, Did I get scammed by Exalt

    Hi there,

    The domain, gumaywest.com, is not registered with us. That domain expired on 16 March and was removed from our system on 28 April. Thirty days later the domain would have been released by the registry, and it appears like it’s not currently registered at all.

    So yes, it does appear you’ve been scammed – whoever exalt.com is, they have no association at all with us, and it also does not appear as if they have any control over your domain.

    I’d recommend you contact PayPal immediately to dispute that charge – hopefully they’ll be able to get your money back for you.

    If you still want to use gumaywest.com with your WordPress.com site you should be able to register it again at My Site ->Domains ->Add – I can see it listed as available there – but do note we no longer sell domains as single upgrades on WordPress.com, so you’ll need to upgrade to one of our paid plans at My Site ->Plans first.

    It appears that exalt.com is hosted by Networksolutions.com. I’d recommend you also contact the abuse department at Networksolutions and report this site to them, as what these people are doing is almost certainly against their terms of service.
