existing design transferred to my account

Someone has designed a site using WordPress for a friend of mine. She has asked me to host her account which I am now doing since 2 years ago when the WordPress site was uploaded via FTP to my hosting. She has now asked me to do some updates but I have never used WordPress before.
What steps should I take?
