– I have an existing (undeveloped) website currently hosted by and they also host our email domain
– I want to set up and develop the website with WordPress but it doesn’t appear that the email domain will be supported by WordPress, so presumably that will stay with I assume
– It appears that if I set up the WordPress account and nominate the domain, it appears that will strip it away from The current host but I don’t want to change the email hosting
– We already previously paid 5years in advance for the domain fees with “Melbourne IT” but it appears those fees are charged also by WordPress so how does that work?Can you please advise as best you can on these issues

With WordPress or with WordPress.com? Those are two different things.
You should be able to install the open source WordPress software at your current host, and build your new site there, without having to change anything with regards to hosting. Please speak to your hosting provider about the best way to do that, if that’s what you want.

If instead you mean you want to move your site to our hosting on WordPress.com, read on.

What is the domain? There are certain domains we cannot host, specifically domains containing characters that don’t form part of the Latin alphabet. If your domain doesn’t contain any of those, though, we can host it, and you can also connect your email hosting to the domain on our end.
We do not provide email hosting, so you’ll still have to get that somewhere else, but that in no way prevents the domain itself from being hosted here:

It sounds like you’re also conflating website hosting and email hosting.
If you add a domain to a site on WordPress.com, it does not change a single thing in your current setup. The domain will only stop showing your current site when you explicitly tell your domain provider to point the domain to us, rather than to your current host.
Doing that will also cause your email to disconnect, but only if you haven’t already added the DNS records required by your email on our end first. To prevent this, just do everything in the right order.
1) Create a WordPress.com site, upgrade it to a paid plan, and add the domain mapping upgrade.
2) If you have any content on the existing website you want to migrate, do that now.
3) On WordPress.com, add any DNS records required for your email to work, exactly as they’re set up at your current host.
4) When 2 and 3 are completely done, change the name servers to point the domain at us. Within a few hours the domain will start showing the WordPress.com site, and your email should not suffer any down time at all.

Yes, we charge a fee for the service we offer by allowing you to connect a domain to a WordPress.com site. Most hosting providers charge for this service.
To use the domain with a site hosted on our service you’ll need at least the Personal Plan. The plan also includes the option to completely transfer the domain to us, rather than just connecting it here while keeping it registered at your current provider. This transfer is free, and also renews the domain for another year, so after the transfer your domain will be good for six years before you’ll have to renew it again. The plan will have to be renewed annually, though.
Transferring the domain to us, rather than just mapping it here, may have implications for your email hosting, though, so please check with your domain provider directly (assuming you also bought your email service from them), whether that service will continue if you transferred the domain registration away from them.
