Existing WordPress.com site is still online, but my account shows “no sites”
-
Hello,
I’m trying to recover access to an old WordPress.com website that I created about 10 years ago. The website is still online and publicly accessible. The website adress is mercellopisfreixas.wordpress.com. However, when I log into my current WordPress.com account, My Sites says that I don’t have any sites. The public posts on the website show the author username “mllopisfreixas” which I believe was my original WordPress.com username. However, when I try to access mercellopisfreixas.wordpress.com
/wp-admin, I get a message saying that my account does not have permission to access the dashboard. Has anyone experienced something similar? Is it possible that the website is associated with a different WordPress.com account that I no longer remember? What is the best way to identify the original account or recover administrative access? Thank you very much for any advice. -
That’s because you are logged in to the wrong account. Completely log out from current mllopisfreixascf2464b41c, next log in again as https://wordpress.com/forums/users/mllopisfreixas/

I have just remembered something that may be important. I am not completely sure, but I think the original WordPress.com account may have been registered with my former work email address ( (email visible only to moderators and staff) ).
I no longer have access to that email account, so I cannot reset the password if that is the account associated with the site.
Is there any way to verify whether that was the original account and, if so, is there a recovery process for users who no longer have access to their old email address?
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes, it may be linked to a different WordPress.com account. The username mllopisfreixas is a useful clue but public posts do not prove ownership. Since you no longer have the former work email, use the Account Recovery form with that username, mercellopisfreixas.wordpress.com, and an email you can access. Keep one accepted proof ready: a transaction ID, activation URL/key, two-step authentication or backup code. Don’t post those details publicly. This recovery guide also covers recovery SMS or a previously connected social login. After submitting, watch your reachable email for a response; once recovered, update your account email and recovery settings.

Hello, I had a free plan, and haven’t used it for years. Now I bought the personal plan, it cost me $48, and when I try to log in, it still shows the free plan, and I haven’t been able to solve this problem.

Hi @fincaideas,
Check your Billing History to confirm whether the $48 Personal plan appears in the account you’re using. If it does but the site still shows the Free plan, use the contact page and choose “Contact WordPress.com customer support.” Please don’t post your receipt or transaction ID here.
As this is separate from the original account-recovery question, please start a new forum topic and include your site address so the two cases don’t get mixed together.

Thank you for your reply.
I tried using the Account Recovery form, but it requires at least one proof of ownership (receipt, activation key or two-factor codes). Unfortunately, I no longer have any of those because the website was created about 10 years ago.I believe the original account was registered with my former work email address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), but that email account was permanently closed when I left that organization about 10 years ago, so I cannot access it or reset the password.
Is there any other way to verify ownership manually? I can provide information about the website, its history, the original content, and anything else that may help.

Unfortunately, no, details about the site’s history or content can help identify the account, but they don’t replace one of the accepted forms of proof. WordPress.com cannot grant access when ownership cannot be established.
The one lead still worth pursuing is asking your former employer whether the old mailbox can be temporarily restored. If it was the account email, even brief access would let you use the normal password reset.

I have sent you an email regarding this. Since account details are sensitive, we can continue the conversation there.
Thanks a lot for the assistance @staartmees @benitoalba
