I have a business and the domain name is forgedsteelecrossfit.com
we had a coach employed by us who had originally set up the domain name through wild West and word press… She was let go from our company a year ago and said she had transferred everything into my name which I do have access to the word press portion however I recently tried to go to the website and it has stated that the domain has expired. I tried to call wild West and they said that you guys had control over opening up that account. I just need some direction on where to go as we do not want to lose this domain and our website

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also just to clarify I have some sort of personal blog which I don’t know how I even can delete that is also attached to my business account forgedsteelecrossfit as well

  • Hi there,

The WordPress.com account you’re using to post here only owns the free site, http://amiecalamari.wordpress.com/, and has never owned any domains with us.

The domain, forgedsteelecrossfit.com, belongs to a completely different account, and only that account can renew the domain or transfer it to another account. I see no evidence in our logs that the owner of that domain ever attempted to transfer it to another account.

The only way to obtain ownership of the domain is if the original owner transfers it to you themselves, so please try to contact them and ask them to follow the steps outlined here:

OK so the issue that I’m having is more so because that person that created the domain was one of our previous coaches/employee and is no longer with us and it was not a great separation. She not responding to my request for her to transfer the domain…. Can you see that I have access to that as well? Is there anything that I can send you to prove that she is no longer an employee and that this is our LLC…So that we can assume responsibility of that domain?

  • @amiecalamari sorry to hear that. If they paid for the domain, technically they are the owner. Being an admin on the site is different from being the domain owner, and the ICANN rules for transferring domain ownership are very strict.

Well technically she didn’t pay for it…we reimbursed her for it! If I can show you proof of that can you transfer it to me?

  • I’m afraid that won’t help, no. The domain was registered under the individual’s name, not the organisation’s, and using their personal contact information, so they are the domain owner regardless of any private arrangements between you and them.
