Expired domain / can't access dashboard

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi. I have a blog through wordpress that was linked to a domain I had purchased elsewhere. I stopped blogging for several months, during which time my domain registration expired.

I’m trying to get back in the game now, and I want to use WP or possibly WP Premium, so I purchased the domain again, this time through y’all. I’m still able to log into my account and see a record of my previous 58 posts existing, but I can’t access the site dashboard. As I said, it had been redirected to the once-expired URL.

Can you help me gain access to that content?

I created a new blog in hopes that I’d be able to transfer content to the new entity or somehow access it, but no dice.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi there,

I see that you currently have the domain radmademoiselles.com linked to a new WordPress.com blog on your account. However, the old blog you had at this domain was a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, which was linked to your WordPress.com account using Jetpack.

The content on your previous WordPress.org site was never stored here at WordPress.com. If you have an export of the site content on your computer you can import it into your WordPress.com site. Otherwise, you will need to contact your previous website hosting provider for assistance recovering that content.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities:

If you have any questions about this, please let me know!

    Thanks for your fast reply.

I exported all my files using Filezilla, but while I see I have my images, I don’t see any HTML files and I don’t have the text content of any of my posts.

    1. Are those stored on WordPress, leaving stylesheets, php etc on my registrar’s site?

    2. The import page seems intended for transferring posts/content from another blogging platform, not just uploading a batch of files. What’s the best way for me to import my files?

Hi there, the importer is meant for export files from other blogs, including export files created using the exporter in WordPress.org. This is a bit different from a backup of your site’s files. The content of your WordPress.org blog (such as posts and pages) are stored in the site’s database. You may need to contact your previous website hosting provider for a backup of your site’s database.

Here is a support page from WordPress.org about moving your blog:

If you need additional assistance with this, you may also want to get support at WordPress.org here:

Getting there — this is very helpful, thank you.
