Expired Domain – doesn't appear to have been released

    I would like to renew and map my previous .com domain – which has now expired. However – it doesn’t appear to have been released. This was previously registered via WordPress.

    Most Domain searches indicate that this remains registered – but my overwhelming suspicion is that, although it has now expired – it hasn’t actually been released.

    Link to review URL in notification points to Plan Upgrade – something that I do not wish to do at this time. I simply would like to get my old domain back, if possible, and map to site – without a plan upgrade.

    I would like to confirm if wordpress has not released the domain in question. I suspect that it’s not been registered in the interim but that it’s either not released or domain lookup register has not been refreshed to reflect this.

    How do I confirm?

    Hey there,

    I checked the status on Whois kainoscreatures.com and is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

    Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
    the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

    Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

    I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.
