Expired domain not available for repurchase

  Hi, until about a year ago the previous leadership of my organization held a Personal subscription for our website and owned a domain through WP. They last renewed our subscription on February 7, 2022 but it looks like the purchase was refunded on February 23, 2022, which I would presume is when we would have given up the domain. The site has been running on the free version of WP since then and it does not appear as though the previous leadership attempted to renew the domain during the redemption period. We are interested in starting up a new website now but it appears as though the original domain is no longer available. Does this mean it has been registered by another party, or is there a chance it is still in the redemption period or being held prior to re-release?
