Export media library

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to export my entire blog from wordpress.com to a personal host, using wordpress.org. I have exported and then imported the XML file. All the contents has been perfectly exported, with the exception of the posts which contain galleries, related to media library. Can you help me in solving this problem, without reassembly all the galleries?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you import on your self-hosted site, the program should ask whether you want to import the media files as well. What specifically is happening to Galleries?

FWIW-As you’ve moved to being self-hosted, for future questions you will need to seek help over at the support forums for WordPress.org http://wordpress.org/support/

I need to know how to import “all of my posts, pages, comments, custom fields, terms, navigation menus and custom posts”: so the wordpress.COM is the right place to ask help. I need to retrieve the images used in galleries, the problem is due to wordpress.COM.

I want to repeat, in order to be more clear: I have already tested the way you report, trough importing the XML with all the related file and images. In fact, the attached images to the posts has been perfectly reported. But, in my blog I have created posts in which I put image-galleries, which hasn’t been correcly exported. How can I do?

Here’s the Support Document on exporting your site from WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

Please pay attention to the Note therein:

Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, do not delete your blog until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog.

If you are planning to export your content to another blog platform, it’s best to download and save your images from your WordPress.com Media Library before trying to import/upload them into the new blog.

Again, is it only the images from the Galleries you are having trouble with or all images? A link to the self-hosted blog would be helpful. :)

I have problems only with the images from the Galleries.

I have noticed that in the last import if I select “all file and images”, I will receive a blank page.

    The new blog is here.

    OK, looking at this post
http://domenicofornarelli.wordpress.com/2011/12/13/porfolio-fotografico/ I can see the gallery shortcode executed.

However, looking at the same post on your self-hosted site
    http://dfornarelli.x90x.net/porfolio-fotografico/138/
    there’s nothing there.

This isn’t really something we forum volunteers can correct because it has to do with the underlying program itself and you should contact Staff and do so quickly before they go on holiday tonight PST. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Since you are dealing with a problem which is occurring on your self-hosted blog, I again suggest that you post your problem in the ORG support forum. Perhaps someone there has run into the same problem when moving their site from COM to ORG. http://wordpress.org/support/

I apologize in advance if this is not the solution you were hoping for.

Thank you very much. I will manually save all the images. Not the best solution, but the fastest.

You’re welcome and maybe try posting in the ORG forum if you haven’t yet. Good luck.
