Export/Import?
-
I had a self hosted Wp blog which I exported daily a backup export feature. Today I was trying to import this into my wordpress.com site but the file extension I have is a sql and not an xml. How can I import my blog content from my old site please?
Appreciate your help in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot import an SQL file here. In the self-hosted blog, you have to go to tools > export and export from there. It will create a file that is compatible with the import function at tools > import here.

Actually that is exactly what I have done. Tools, export and had it emailed to myself. The file is coming through as .sql.
Which is why I am confused. Doing it word for word as it says to do in here and as you have mentioned.
Thanks for answering though.

Sounds like you are getting a Database export back-up. Do you have any back-up Plug-in’s installed? Are you logged into your WordPress program or are you logged into something like cPannel?

/nod to @auxclasss, this sounds like you have a database backup plugin and are not using the built-in exporter from wordpress. The exporter does not give the option of having the file emailed to you. It will download it directly to your computer.

I was logged into my wordpress panel. Working under tools>export, etc – perhaps it is a plugin.
A little perturbed right now given my site is down and I can’t get back into my wp dashboard. Not sure how I will be able to import it all from this point if I don’t have the correct file.
I appreciate your comments though!
Thanks
