Exporting content to Siteground Host

    So I have decided to move to self hosting and have set up an account through Siteground. The support team there went to export all my previous content and this is the email I received about them being unsucessful.

    I have tried to perform this export, but as it appears the plugin does not want to generate the xml file. Unfortunately, we will not be able to fix this issue since we do not have access to the files of the application and thus we have our hand tied.

    I would recommend you contacting the support team of WordPress.com so that they can provide you with this XML file in order for us to import.

    The error that I receive each time I try to export the file is the following:

    You can provide them with the screenshot so that they can review it and address this issue accordingly.

    Any thoughts and please note I am not tech savvy at all and keep questioning why I tried the move in the first place!!

    Hi Kate,

    You can Export your site’s content yourself by heading to Tools > Export in your site’s dashboard.

    You can click the “Export” link, choose what to export (I’d recommend exporting “All content”), and click the “Download Export File” button to download your export file.

    You can then send that file to Siteground to get help importing it on their end.

    Hi and thanks for finally responding! I worked it out myself in the end, when I was trying to export all content the error message as shown above kept appearing. So in the end I exported each part seperately starting with posts then pages etc. no idea why it wouldn’t do it all at once.

    I’m glad you were able to work it out! It’s strange that error message appeared for you when you tried to export everything.

    If you need I can generate a full export file for you, but if you got everything you needed when you exported the site in sections that’s great. :)
