Exporting full blog

Hi, I’ve seen I ran out of space on my blog which I write for my family and friends. As it’s absolutely not commercial, I don’t feel I need a plan for it, sometimes I don’t post for months (obviously I post every week nowadays or more). So the question is if I can export my old blog posts (including pics and titles) so I can put them into archive on my computer, and keep the fresh content online? That would help me a lot.
    Thanks is advance!

  • Hi there,

You can export your site’s content (posts, pages, comments) in a .xml file. But that file is meant to be read by computers, not humans, so it’s not the same thing as a local copy of your website you keep on your computer.

That file also does not contain any of the images in your media library. It only contains links to them, which would enable another site to fetch those images directly from the media library when you import the .xml file there.

You can download your entire media library, but that will just create a folder with all the images on your hard drive, with nothing linking the images to the actual posts in the export file.

    Export Your Website’s Content

If you want an archive on your computer that still allows you to read your posts, I recommend instead using a service like blogbooker.com to convert that .xml file into a PDF format for you. That will include your images as well, as Blogbooker fetch those images from the media library when they do the conversion for you.
