How come facebook comments are an option on my pc but they arent on mobile? Only google+ is available on mobile

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Do you mean when viewing your site in a mobile browser? I don’t see the social media login option for comments at all if I visit your site in Chrome on Android.

What mobile browser are you using – please include the version number. And can you also take a screen shot of what you see and upload it at My Site ->Media?

    Good morning,

So what I mean, when I go on my browser on my pc, when I’m going to comment, it shows that I’m logged in at me, but if I click change, I can then use another social media account to comment.

On my phone, I don’t get that option. I’m using safari on my iPhone X.

So when I press ‘you need to log in to comment’ on my phone I get this

    https://i2.wp.com/pilotknutton.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/5f4905a2-2121-4cd0-88b9-a89b32ee6af4.png?ssl=1&w=450

The only reason I ask, is that when I googled that you can have Facebook comment intergration into wordpress.com, but it’s not clear how to use it or for other people to potentially comment either.

  • Okay.

So yes, you can use social media accounts to comment. This is meant as an alternative to being logged into a WordPress.com account. But that feature only works on desktop browsers, not mobile ones.

What’s happening when you click Log In on mobile, is that you get redirected to the WordPress.com login page, in other words, the only option there is to log into a WordPress.com account. And for WordPress.com accounts we have two options – either via a username you created when creating your account, or you can sign up for an account via a Gmail account.

    I hope that clarifies it.

Are there any plans for that feature to expand to mobile browsers also?

  • I actually posted a message to one of our developers asking right after I replied to you here. It probably depends on why the feature is not active there to start with, but if I get any more info on this I’ll let you know.

It does seem to be a little odd that it’s not available on such a popular platform.
But thank you for helping and guiding me Kokkieh

  • It looks like this might be a bug, so we’ve opened an issue to investigate this further. I can’t tell you when this might be fixed, but we are looking into it. Thanks for reporting it!

So you’re telling me you will be able to post comments via mobile devices using such social media outlets like Facebook?
If so, that’s great!! I’m glad I managed to chip in and help!

  • @jfknutton We’ve reported the issue for you so that the developers can look into it for you. We’ll update you when we have more information.
